The Florida Gators coaching staff was active on Monday as they handed out a handful of offers to 2022 prospects during the day.
2022 defensive back Azareyeh Thomas (6-3, 176, Niceville, FL. High) was one of those guys offered by Florida after he spoke to one of the Gators’ new assistant coaches.
“Coach [Jules] Montinar offered me,” Thomas said of the coach who offered him on Monday. “He said he loved my length, physicality, and how I overall play the game at my position.”
Thomas has admitted that he has been waiting on this offer from Florida and the defensive back was happy to receive the offer.
“It means everything to me,” he said on the offer. “It’s just a blessing to be in this position to get the offer. I wouldn’t say I was expecting it but I don’t walk into any phone call expecting an offer, if it comes, it comes, and if it doesn’t then that’s God’s plan.”
New cornerbacks coach Jules Montinar explained to Thomas on Monday just where he would play at in the Gators defense if he comes to Gainesville.
“He said I would play cornerback,” Thomas said on where Montinar wants him to play. “They were working on new schemes and said that I’ll fit right in with my physicality and length.”
Thomas hasn’t visited Gainesville yet but he knows a good bit about the Gators history at his position.
“I know they’re called DBU for a reason,” he said on what he likes about Florida. “I know they produce a lot of defensive backs for success in the league. Growing up I didn’t have a dream school but I just loved watching the game.”
Several other schools have Thomas high on their board but the Niceville prospect admitted he has a lot of interest in the Gators.
“High interest for sure,” Thomas said of his interest in Florida. “I love their culture over there and I know they produce not only great football players but great people as well. I hope to visit when the dead period ends.”
