On Wednesday, the Florida Gators coaching staff was busy offering prospects from the State of Texas and that included two tight ends.
Tight end Reid Mikeska (6-6, 230, Bridgeland, TX. High) was one of those prospects who picked up an offer.
“Coach [William] Peagler did,” Mikeska said on the coach from Florida who offered him. “He said he loves my film and thinks I could come in and play and make a difference for them.”
Mikeska has been talking to Peagler and analyst Ty Darlington a lot but to hear the news of receiving an offer from Florida was big to the Texas native.
“I was super happy,” he said on his reaction to the offer. “I’m a huge fan of Florida so it meant a lot to get that offer.”
Peagler also explained to Mikeska on Wednesday why the Gators were late offering him and what has changed.
“They didn’t plan on taking a tight end in my class earlier but after spring ball they’ve realized they’re going to need a tight end,” Mikeska said on the message from Peagler. “I was at the top of the board for kids to offer at the position.”
While talking to Peagler on Wednesday, the Gators assistant coach explained just how Mikeska would fit into the offense.
“He feels I can come in and play the Y and the H,” he said on how Peagler sees him fitting into the offer. “I can really help in the run game and the passing game because of my size, athleticism, and blocking ability.”
After picking up the offer, Mikeska says he has a lot of interest in Florida for several reasons.
“I have very high interest,” Mikeska said on his interest in Florida. “I think Florida is a great campus and location and I think they’re great coaches and have really good plans for the tight end position.”
Next up for Mikeska will be a trip to Gainesville as several other SEC and top programs are recruiting the tight end hard.
“I plan to visit in April or May,” he said on when he plans to visit Florida, and who else is recruiting him hard. “Alabama, Clemson, South Carolina, Miami, LSU, Baylor, Michigan State, and Auburn are.”
