The curse of IMG Academy may be broken.
After a tumultuous recruitment with commitments, decommitments, re-commitments 2021 defensive back Kamar Wilcoxson has reclassified, joined the 2020 class, and enrolled at the University of Florida. Wilcoxson planned to transfer to IMG, but never really played for the Ascenders. However, given the history of recruiting at IMG, Gator fans will take it, even if there’s an asterisk.
Wilcoxson was able to graduate high school this summer, no small feat, and decided it was best for his future to start college early.

The freshman was on campus Friday and went through his first practice. NCAA rules mandate that he goes through an acclimation period, so he was only in a helmet, but was able to walk through with the rest of the team.
“He’s behind with, the walkthroughs, he’s missed the walkthroughs and missed ten practices, is he going to know everything? I can’t expect him to do that, but we’ve got to see,” Mullen said of Wilcoxson on Saturday. “I mean, I don’t know. We’ll get him out there, we’ll start him practicing, we’ll see what he does well, how fast he can pick things up.”
Wilcoxson is a talented safety but he has told Gator Country that Florida wants him to play cornerback. His athleticism will allow him to play either position at Florida. It may be a tall order to get him on the field in a meaningful way given that the Gators’ first game is four weeks from today but, as Dan Mullen noted, it’s easier to get on the field when you’re playing a skill position as Wilcoxson does.
“He could (play),” Mullen said. “One of the nice things is, especially like a skill position on the edge, you can create some things. You know, am I going to expect a guy that’s come in and we’re through, what are we through, ten practices now, a guy at a skill position, you certainly can create a package and some things for him to do on the field if the opportunity presents itself.”
