Jenkins enjoys being around Sean Spencer and the Gators’ coaching staff

The Florida Gators hosted eight prospects on campus this weekend including several guys who made their first trip to Gainesville.

Defensive end Jayson Jenkins (6-6, 255, Trenton, NJ. Notre Dame) was on campus and enjoyed seeing the entire coaching staff.

“It was great,” Jenkins said of his visit to Florida. “All of the coaches are coming into place, with great staff coming from the NFL and other great colleges. It was just very very cool to see the program going in such a great direction.”

Defensive line coach Sean Spencer was able to spend a lot of time around Jenkins this weekend and the New Jersey native left impressed by Spencer’s energy.

“Coach Spencer is a great guy in general,” he said on Sean Spencer. “He’s very energetic and always trying to get a laugh in. He knows a lot about the game and has a lot of knowledge and is just a great coach overall. Great guy to be around.”

This was also the first time for Jenkins to meet several other members of the coaching staff and he thinks the future is bright for the staff.

“All great guys,” Jenkins said on his impressions of the coaching staff. “They’re putting in all of the right tools and pieces to really elevate all of the athletes’ games on the team. It should be a very exciting thing for Florida.

Spencer and Napier also explained to Jenkins during the visit just how he would fit into the Gators’ defense.

“They’re looking at me as an end,” Jenkins said on where Florida wants him to play. “Mainly just holding the edge on the defense and just being the anchor so that’s pretty much what they say. They broke everything down to a T, even down to the stance. They’re just great teachers overall.”

Jenkins was able to see everything that Florida has to offer during the visit and he’s looking forward to continuing to build on those relationships.

“Just continued to build our relationship and gave me a better outlook of what they have to offer here,” he said on what he learned during the visit. “I’m just continuing on the process with Florida, it was a very great experience overall.”

Next up for Jenkins is a visit to one of the Gators rivals as he’s waiting patiently for Florida to offer him ahead of signing day.

“I visit Tennessee next week,” Jenkins said on what’s next for him. “We will see where it all lays out and I will come into a decision coming into signing day. West Virginia, Tennessee, Florida, and Missouri are [still in the running].”
