Humphrey enjoys the “live” environment under the lights in the Swamp

Eight of the Florida Gators commits were on campus on Friday night for Friday Night Lights to help the coaching staff recruit the other top targets.

Defensive back commit Julian Humphrey (6-1, 185, Houston, TX. Clear Lake) was on campus and liked the atmosphere in the Swamp on Friday Night.

“The trip was amazing just like always,” Humphrey said of his visit to Florida on Friday. “The trips down to Gainesville are the best. The highlight was when I first got here, the warm welcome I got and then sitting down with Coach Dan Mullen talking about life. Friday Night Lights under the lights was live.”

Humphrey who already has a spot in the Gators class decided to work out on Friday and he got some tips from the Gators coaching staff.

“It was great, it was great working out and going against the top recruits in the country,” he said on working out for the coaching staff. “Pretty much, they’re [coaches] just telling me to stay square and if I use my long arms that I can eliminate receivers. Right now, they say I’m doing perfect, and everybody is surprised at how fast I can move at my size.”

Defensive backs coach Wesley McGriff has impressed Humphrey with his coaching background and the number of prospects he has put in the league.

“It’s amazing, you know Coach [Wesley] McGriff has a very good background,” Humphrey said on working out for the coaches. “He has put out several defensive backs and I just want to be a part of it.”

Defensive backs coach Jules Montinar has explained to Humphrey just how he will fit into the defense and how quick he can expect to get on the field.

“Coach Jules told me when I first get here that he’s going to put me right in the game to get my feet wet,” he said on how he will fit into the defense. “It’s going to be Jason Marshall and Jayden Hill if he stays and then me getting into the rotation. Then whenever Jayden Hill leaves then it will be me and Jason Marshall.”

Humphrey has made news by taking several visits to other schools, but he says he remains solid with the Gators.

“Like I say, you can do only do this one-time taking visits so I’m just taking them and having fun,” Humphrey said on visits. “Everybody knows that I’m committed to Florida.”

Next up for Humphrey will be another official visit and then he plans to return to Gainesville for the Gators first SEC game.

“I’m not going to Texas A&M [on Saturday],” he said on upcoming visits. “I have an official to Alabama, and I think that’s it. I’m going to be back here for the Alabama game.
