Four-star DB target Jaylan Morgan sets decision date

2025 four-star defensive back target Jaylan Morgan plans to commit on July 8th between Florida, Georgia, Mississippi State, and Ole Miss. The Rockvale, Tennessee product took an official visit to Florida on May 31st.

“It went great. We had a lot of fun out there, bonding with my host, bonding with all the coaches, spending time with them, talking about different factors of what it would be like if I came to Florida, development wise, where I’d be staying, how I would fit into their defensive system…it’s been a great overall experience,” Morgan told Gator Country.

Florida is recruiting the 6’0, 180-pound defensive back for the safety and STAR position.

“I would definitely say they are one of my top schools, with coach Harris and coach Armstrong, I really get along with them.”

The highlight of Morgan’s visit was spending time with his player host, true freshman safety Greg Smith. Smith’s message on the direction of the program was positive, but Morgan wants to see it on the field in 2024.

“He was saying he believes in the program ascending and taking big steps this season,” Morgan said on Smith’s message.

A rebound season for the Florida Gators is important in Morgan’s recruitment.

“It’s very important to me,” Morgan said. “I just want to see how the program ascends like he says it will, that would be a very strong impact on my recruitment.”

While Morgan is committing on July 8th, he was open and honest about wanting to see how Florida’s 2024 season shakes out. So whether Florida lands the four-star safety or not on July 8th, the Gators need to impress him on the field this season.

Morgan has built a strong relationship with Gators’ defensive back coach Will Harris, who offered the top-300 composite prospect on January 30th in his hometown of Rockvale, Tennessee.

“He’s very hungry, that’s why I like coach Harris a lot. He’s one of my favorite coaches that’s been recruiting me and that’s what stands out,” Morgan said on Harris. “I told my mom, whenever he came up to the school and offered me, I could see that hunger, and I was like ‘I got to go up there’.”

Morgan likes coach Harris’ NFL background.

“It means a lot,” Morgan said on Harris having experience in the NFL. “He’s been around those guys, he’s been around Derwin James, so he knows how the game works a little bit and all the recruiting, so I feel like he could guide me to the NFL.”

Florida currently has eight verbal commitments including two defensive players in the 2025 class, zero of which are defensive backs.
