Former Florida Gators commit Sam McCall visits Gainesville

There wasn’t a lot of prospects committed to other schools on campus on Friday for the Florida Gators but one guy in particular showed him despite being committed to a rival school.

Florida State defensive back commit Sam McCall (6-0, 180, Lakeland, FL. Lake Gibson) was in Gainesville on Friday but admitted that other visits to Gainesville have been better.

“The first visit here just to see everything,” McCall said of his visit to Florida on Friday. “Not as exciting as the last time I came. It felt great to see a lot of good people that I haven’t seen in a while.”

McCall wanted to see what the message from Jules Montinar and Wesley McGriff would be to him since they’re new to the staff.

“To see what they had to talk about technique wise as defensive back coaches,” he said on hanging out with Jules and McGriff. “The original coach, Torrian Gray, wasn’t here so I came to see what they were talking about.”

The former Florida commit says one of his teammates convinced him to visit Gainesville and give the Gators a chance on Friday.

“First time seeing them in person,” McCall said on why he visited Florida on Friday. “It was Jaylon Glover, he told me to just slide and come see it again. I just said I was going to come and hang out with the players.”

After the visit, McCall says that his commitment to Florida State is solid and that he plans to stick with the Seminoles.

“We’re sticking with Florida State,” he said on if he’s still listening to Florida.

A return trip to Gainesville is unlikely as McCall says he needs to rebuild his relationship with Dan Mullen after the two had a great relationship while he was committed to Florida.

“To be honest with you, we’re going to have to build that relationship back up,” McCall said on his relationship with Mullen. “We will have to see what happens.”
