Florida in strongest spot for WR Naeshaun Montgomery following OV

The Gators welcomed long-time WR target Naeshaun Montgomery to campus last weekend for his first official visit to Florida.

A four-star and top 175 prospect according to 247’s composite ranking, Montgomery is down to four schools: Penn State, LSU, Alabama, and Florida.

While Montgomery wouldn’t name a leader, he did say Florida is in the strongest spot following his official visit in Gainesville.

“Florida,” Montgomery said when asked who was in the strongest spot heading into his next two official visits.

“I had an amazing time,” Montgomery told Gator Country. “Everybody showed a lot of love from the moment I stepped on campus. Really all the coaches expressed how much they want me and how much I would impact the offense.”

“After this weekend it definitely boosted them up even higher,” Montgomery said on where Florida stands in his recruitment. “They were already high but now they’re definitely higher. Just the way I was treated today and the other days.”

The highlight of his trip was getting the chance to interact with head coach Billy Napier.

“When we were at dinner, coach Napier was going around saying what’s up to everybody,” Montgomery said on the highlight of his trip. “And definitely when I rode in coach Napier’s Maybach.”

“He wants me and I’m a priority for them,” Montgomery said on Napier’s message to him.

Florida talked Xs and Os with the 6’1, 165-pound receiver out of Miami Central last weekend.

“They said I can play inside, outside, they gonna put me in the backfield, mainly just everywhere just to get the ball in my hands,” Montgomery said.

Napier’s background as a wide receivers coach is something that Montgomery is well aware of.

“It was great just knowing as a head coach he knows how to develop receivers as well as coach Gonzales, and I really like the history they have with all the receivers,” Montgomery said.

Montgomery shared a message we have heard from other pass catchers on campus last weekend; good quarterback play is important in his recruitment. Florida has that potential with five-star QB DJ Lagway on the roster, the Nation’s top QB in the 2024 class.

“It means a lot, mainly because without a good quarterback you really can’t do nothing as a receiver,” Montgomery said. “Every time I met with DJ he really just said he wants me and he wants me to be his X receiver.”

Florida offered Montgomery on April 1st of 2023 and have been in constant communication ever since, something the Rhode Island native values a lot in his recruitment.

“Really like their communication. They never stop texting me, they check on my family, and that’s really like my main thing,” Montgomery said.

Montgomery is set to take official visits to LSU and Penn State in the coming weeks and is planning a visit to Alabama during the 2024 season. He wants to have a commitment before the first game of his senior season.
