On Saturday, the Florida Gators hosted several top targets on campus for spring practice and that included some prospects committed to other schools.
Miami linebacker commit Jordan Campbell (6-2, 200, Miami, FL. Carol City) was on campus and enjoyed being around everyone.
“The visit was good,” Campbell said of his visit to Florida on Saturday. “It was real good, I was blessed that they wanted me up here and to be in their presence.”
Campbell was joined by his mom and coach on Saturday and they had the chance to see practice and meet with everyone.
“We watched practice, and we had a meeting with the coaching staff,” he said on what all he got to do on Saturday. “I just got a feel for the environment and seeing how they operate in practice; you know just feeling the energy around the program. That’s what really stood out to me.”
The Miami commit was impressed by the Gators’ practice and he liked seeing some guys that he knows competing on the field for Florida.
“Practice was like real intense,” Campbell said of Florida’s practice. “It was a lot of competing, Cormani McClain was out there locking up people, he had an interception in practice. It was real fun, and everyone was competing. Ben Hanks wasn’t scared to get out there on the field and get some early reps as a freshman. Neashaun Montgomery he was out there just going crazy from Miami Central. Seeing all of those people that are from Miami doing that, I’m a type of guy like if you’re doing it, I’m going to do it. So that was real good to see.”
While watching practice, Campbell watched a freshman linebacker closely as the Gators like him in the same role.
“I just watched and looked at Ty Jackson, the freshman linebacker that I played with at the Under Armour All-American game,” he said on who he watched during practice. “He was just good to shadow and just seeing him get into reps was nice.”
Saturday was also the first time for Campbell to meet new linebackers coach Robert Bala and the first impression was a good one.
“That was one of the best things,” he said on meeting Robert Bala. “Me and him really got down to the nitty gritty of what they want and what I want and look for in Florida and what they’re looking for.”
Bala talked ball with Campbell on Saturday but also explained to him that he cares about his guys both on and off the field.
“His biggest message was that he’s a football person and football is his only hobby,” Campbell said on the message from Bala. “He doesn’t want that to overshadow how much he cares for his players. He also wants to talk football a lot and he likes it to be executed right, just like me.”
Campbell who says he will be back for another practice this month says the Gators helped themselves on Saturday because of the time they spent with his mom.
“They definitely up’ed their game,” he said on if Florida helped themselves on Saturday. “They had me around longer than usual and they were just making sure my mom was good. This wasn’t my first time at Florida but it was my mom’s first time. They took her all the way on a college tour by herself so that was real crazy to me that they took care of my mom like that.”
