Florida Gators WR commit Marquez Daniel says his recruitment is “over”

Last weekend was a huge weekend for the Florida Gators as they had three prospects commit while on campus and set the stage for other visitors.

Receiver Marquez Daniel (6-5, 187, Tuskegee, AL., Booker T. Washington) committed on Saturday morning, and he knew heading into the weekend that he would make that decision.

“My freshman year, the first time coming down here,” Daniel said on when he knew he wanted to commit to Florida. “Good vibes and 100 percent real here. My relationship with Coach Billy G [Gonzales] and Coach [Billy] Napier, too.”

After announcing his decision to commit to Florida over Auburn, Daniel says his recruitment is shut down.

“I’m closing my recruitment down,” he said, on whether he will take any more visits. “I’m not taking any more visits. [Auburn] is going to keep trying, but it’s over with.”

One of the big reasons that the Gators had a chance with Daniel was the role of staff member Chad Luca,s who’s from Tuskegee himself.

“Great dude, he’s a hometown hero,” Daniel said of Chad Lucas and his relationship with him. “He’s one of the reasons I’m here too. I appreciate him, too. My mom and he went to school together, she’s super excited.”

While on campus, freshman receiver Dallas Wilson spent a lot of time with Daniel and explained to him what he needed to do to get on the field.

“He told me that you just have to learn the playbook,” Daniel said on the message from Dallas Wilson to him. “He told me to be the man that I’m supposed to be. He’s a funny guy.”

Receivers’ coach Billy Gonzales also impressed Daniel during their meetings, and he also had a message for the receiver.

“Great dude and great character,” he said of Billy Gonzales. “He showed so much love, he told me that I might be playing as a true freshman if I keep playing like I play.”

Daniel says he knows he will be back in Gainesville for some games this fall as he turns his attention to recruiting other players.

“I know I will be back for two games,” Daniel said of visiting Florida.
