Billy Napier and his coaching staff have been in the process of offering prospects in the Class of 2024 and beyond during the dead period as they look to set their recruiting board for this year ahead of March visits.
The Gators 2024 class is already off to a great start as they have their leader of the class in quarterback DJ Lagway as well as commits from running back Chauncey Bowens and linebackers Adarius Hayes and Myles Graham.
GatorCountry is going to bring you a series that will look at the top prospects at each position in the 2024 class ahead of spring visits in March.
Since the Gators already have their quarterback in DJ Lagway, we will start with the running back position.
Running back
The Gators already have running back commit Chauncey Bowens in the class, but they want and need two in this class. Bowens is solid with Florida, but multiple other schools have really turned up the heat on the running back including Georgia who hosted the running back on campus in January. The Gators will have to continue to recruit Bowens hard to keep him in the class.
Here are the top targets at the position that could fill the last spot in the class.
Running back Jerrick Gibson- Gibson was a one-time Florida commit who’s originally from Gainesville but he decommitted once the new staff arrived as he said he wanted to make sure he made the right decision. Gibson is the number one ranked running back in the country and he has a lot of teams in heavy pursuit of him the running back was on campus in January and called the visit a good one. The IMG running back plans to return to Gainesville this spring as the Gators look to beat out the likes of Georgia, Miami, Tennessee, and Texas for his signature.
Running back Stacy Gage- Gage transferred to St. Thomas Aquinas from Wharton and is good friends with Florida signee Dijon Johnson as they played together last season. Gage has been to Gainesville close to a dozen times already, but the Gators have their work cut out for them as Alabama, Oklahoma, and Ohio State seem to have the edge for Gage early on. The Gators need to get Gage back on campus again to regain some momentum in his recruitment. As a junior Gage ran for 704 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Running back Anthony Carrie- Carrie is another instate prospect from Carrollwood Day who’s ranked as one of the top guys in the country. Carrie has offers from Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Miami, and Notre Dame among many others. Carrie has been on campus in Gainesville several times already and he says he will be in the spring and likely in the summer for an official visit. As a junior Carrie rushed for 919 yards and 16 touchdowns.
Running back Jordan Lyle- Lyle recently picked up an offer from Florida after visiting Gainesville in January. Lyle is considered one of the top backs in the country and teams like Alabama, Florida State, and Ohio State are all recruiting St. Thomas Aquinas running back hard. Lyle was excited to pick up an offer from the Gators and plans to return to town this spring as the Gaotrs hope to get some momentum with the back. Last year Lyle ran for 1,015 yards and 12 touchdowns as a junior.
