Recruits came to Gainesville from near and far to visit Florida for Friday Night Lights. One of the farthest travelers on campus was 2020 wide receiver Jordan Johnson (6-2, 180, Saint Louis, MO. DeSmet).
Johnson is rated as the top player in the state of Missouri and the No. 8 wide receiver in his class.
He enjoyed taking in the campus for the first time and really getting to spend some time with Florida’s new coaching staff. They like Johnson’s speed and the way he attacks the ball.
“I like the facilities and the coaches and just like the energy I got from the coaches and the conversation I had with them,” he said. “It was all good things to hear.”
Johnson said the Gators have been on him hard to take a visit since offering back in April, so it was only a matter of time before he made it down. Florida has always been a place that’s drawn his interest.
“Florida’s just always been a good school,” Johnson said. “It’s a great school academically … I just had to come check it out. They showed love for me, so I had to come out and show some love.”
He is done with his visits until the fall and is setting focus on his upcoming high school season. As of now, he plans to make trips to Arkansas, Ohio State and Notre Dame for games this year, but said he is going to try to add Florida to that list.
Distance is the main hindrance between Johnson and Florida. He said the Gators are big-time for him and coming to Florida could be a possibility, but he does not plan to make his decision until the end of his junior year or may even push it back to his senior year.
Only time will tell if the Gators can jump in and make a real push, but head coach Dan Mullen and his staff definitely gave Johnson something to think about on his trip home.
“Great impressions,” he said of his visit. “Coach Mullen told me Florida is expected to win and that’s everyone’s mindset, so I mean, if you come here, you’re going to be expected to win championships and do great. You’re expected to work hard and be good.”
