Fall camp preview: Breaking down Florida’s running back room

Gator Country continues breaking down each position group on Florida’s roster ahead of fall camp. We will take a deeper dive into the Gators’ running back room, a unit that hasn’t had any issues under assistant coach Jabbar Juluke. Florida’s ground game is led by Jadan Baugh and Ja’Kobi Jackson, a duo that gained a ton of experience in the SEC last year while combining for 1,182 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns. Florida’s running back room is built to sustain injuries and keep backs fresh with their depth.

Jadan Baugh (So.)

Sophomore Jadan Baugh is expected to serve as one of Florida’s primary running backs in 2025 after leading the Gators in rushing yards last season. Baugh totaled 673 rushing yards on 5.1 yards per carry while tying the team high in rushing touchdowns with seven.

Baugh has a large frame standing at 6’0.75, 230 pounds, but you wouldn’t believe that by watching his short area quickness. The Atlanta, Georgia native is quick off the line of scrimmage and is tough to bring down in open space, averaging 2.6 yards after contact throughout his freshman campaign, the 6th most amongst SEC running backs in 2024, according to SEC Stat Cat. Baugh’s broken tackle rate of 31.58% ranked third in the SEC last season.

While Baugh doesn’t have the straight-line speed of his teammates, he can create explosive plays given his ability to make people miss and his burst through the gap. Baugh logged 20 carries over 10+ yards last year and nine over 15+, which led the Gators.

Baugh has also received praise for his pass protection, which makes him capable of playing all three downs. Billy Napier will rotate running backs frequently, but Baugh will be heavily involved in Florida’s offense in 2025.

Ja’Kobi Jackson (R-Sr.)

Redshirt senior Ja’Kobi Jackson is back for his final season of college after a breakout year in 2024. The 5’10.5, 216 pound running back rushed for 509 yards on 5.4 yards per carry while tying Jadan Baugh for the team high in touchdowns with seven. Jackson also caught seven passes for 76 yards.

Jackson’s best stretch of play came in consecutive weeks against a trio of ranked teams, two of which held top ranked defenses in 2024. Versus Georgia, Texas, and LSU combined, Jackson rushed for 227 yards on 37 carries, an average of 6.1 yards per carry. Jackson scored one touchdown in each of those contests.

Like Baugh, Jackson also excels in creating yards after contact, averaging a team high 3.46 last season. Jackson created just four runs of 15+ yards last season with a long of 20, which is unique in the fact that he averaged an impressive 5.4 yards per carry. However, it’s not hard to see that Jackson has the skillset to be a true home run threat. In Florida’s Orange and Blue game, Jackson rushed for 198 yards and three touchdowns on just 10 carries, an average of 19.8 yards per attempt. The Penscola native posted touchdown runs of 23, 40, and 90 yards, displaying elite breakaway speed throughout the game.

Jackson and Baugh will carry most of the workload for Florida’s rushing attack as the duo looks to prove they are one of the better 1-2 punches in the SEC.

Treyaun Webb (R-So.)

Treyaun Webb is back for his third season in Gainesville after missing most of the 2024 campaign with fractured tibia that eventually required surgery. Prior to injury, Webb was on pace for a much more productive season with 93 yards and a touchdown through four games. In his final two contests against Texas A&M and Mississippi State, Webb combined for 78 yards on just 14 carries, an average of 5.6 yards per carry.

Webb will likely take on a similar role in 2025 as Florida’s third running back on the depth chart.

KD Daniels (R-Fr.)

Second year running back KD Daniels appeared in four games throughout his rookie campaign in 2024, rushing for 77 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. In Florida’s bowl game vs Tulane, Daniels recorded a career high 55 rushing yards on five carries and logged a 25-yard touchdown run, the first of his career.

We haven’t seen a ton of the 5’11.5, 201 pound running back as he battled injuries last year and throughout spring camp. However, Daniels looks bigger and stronger heading into 2025.

Duke Clark (Fr.)

One of three freshmen running backs on Florida’s 2025 roster is Plant High School’s Duke Clark. Across three years at the varsity level, Clark ran for 1,737 yards and 38 touchdowns while posting 1,326 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns through the air. Clark is a polished receiver and could see time as a special teamer in 2025 given his track speed. The 6’0.5, 190 pound running back was on campus for spring camp where he ran for 25 yards and a touchdown on eight attempts in the Orange and Blue game. Running back coach Jabbar Juluke praised Clark’s pass protection ability during spring camp.

Bryon Louis (Fr.)

The Fort Lauderdale native played varsity football at American Heritage, totaling 3,345 rushing yards and 45 touchdowns while averaging 7.6 yards a carry throughout his high school career. Louis received high praise from coaches at the Under Armour All-America Camp for his coachability and work ethic. Louis didn’t make it to campus for spring camp which will put him behind some of the other guys in the room, however, Florida’s staff is high on Louis and thinks he has a chance to earn early playing time.

Chad Gasper (Fr.)

Texas native Chad Gasper enrolled at UF in the spring semester but wasn’t active as he’s still recovering from a torn ACL he suffered during his senior season at Katy Jordan High School. The 5-10, 200-pound running back totaled 1,566 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns to go along with 459 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Gasper accounted for 1,163 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns during his sophomore and junior seasons. Gasper’s injury status is unclear heading into fall camp.
