The Florida Gators continued their hot streak on Monday when they picked up another commitment from a 2022 prospect.
Linebacker EJ Lightsey (6-2, 210, Fitzgerald, GA. High) committed to Florida over Florida State and several others.
“For the next three to four years, I will be taking my talents to the University of Florida,” Lightsey said in his commitment video.
Lightsey was on campus in Gainesville for Friday Night Lights in July making the second time this summer the linebacker was on campus.
The linebacker joins linebacker commit Shemar James in the class as Florida has told Lightsey that he can all over the field at the position.
“He said I was very versatile so it wouldn’t matter what linebacker he put me at,” Lightsey said on where Robinson sees him playing. “But he sees more as an outside linebacker because I can run sideline to sideline and I could fill gaps and fit people up in the hole and I could also cover.
Florida has long been a top school for Lightsey as the linebacker admitted when he got the offer in January that he had high interest in Florida.
“I have very high interest in Florida,” he said. “They’re always competing for a national championship or a bowl game. They’re one of the few programs that always values defense and I like how they hold their players to a high standard and expect them to work and give max effort every day.”
Lightsey is the 12th commitment in the Class of 2022 and the second commitment from the state of Georgia.
