Egaukun and Wilson expected to return to action in week five

Florida’s starting center Kingsley Eguakun and wide receiver Eugene Wilson are off the injury report and expected to start against Kentucky in week five after missing last weekend’s game against Charlotte due to injury.

Eguakun has started 27 games at center in his Gators’ career and has proved to be a vital piece to the Gators’ offense.

“I think Kingsley’s presence affects our offensive unit. I don’t think there’s any doubt,” Head Coach Billy Napier said during Wednesday’s press conference. “Experience, there’s no value, no price tag you can put on it. The guy’s ability. He’s comfortable, he’s been there, he’s a really good communicator, he’s got an edge about him that rubs off on the other guys. It will be a big deal. He showed some toughness this week, relative to what he’s been able to do. So tomorrow’s going to be important to him all the way up until we kick it off he continues to work hard at it.”

Eguakun has been dealing with a lower body injury that he suffered during fall camp that has kept him out of all but one game this season. In the only game he played in, Florida cruised to a victory against No.11 Tennessee.

Wilson, a true freshman, has had a major impact on the Gators’ offense through his first three collegiate games, recording 12 receptions for 104 yards while adding two carries for 27 yards. Wilson grades as the 11th best wide receiver in the FBS among eligible players, according to Pro Football Focus.

“Tre, we all know, you all were at practice and training camp. Our players know, our DBs know, the guy’s a unique player. He has unique acceleration. He has unique instincts, vision, ball skills, hand selection, run after catch, it’s not too big for him. It’s always good when he’s healthy,” Billy Napier said on Wilson.

Florida is set to face Kentucky who ranks 20th in total defense, 61st in passing defense, 9th in rushing defense, and 20th in scoring defense through four games.
