Defensive back Wardell Mack commits to the Florida Gators over Texas

The Florida Gators picked up big news on Monday morning when they landed an out-of-state prospect.

Defensive back Wardell Mack (5-11, 170, Marrero, LA. John Ehret) committed to the Florida Gators over Texas and LSU on Monday.

Mack visited Florida twice over the summer including for the Gators Grill in the Ville event at the end of July and that’s where the Gators made up a lot of ground for him.

During that event he had multiple Gators’ commits recruiting him to join them in Gainesville including quarterback commit DJ Lagway who had a message for him.

“I feel like we have a real good chance,” Lagway said on Florida’s chance with Wardell Mack. “I know it’s coming down to Florida and LSU but I feel like we have a really good chance. I basically told him to choose what’s best for him to talk to God about it. Let God lead you in that decision.”

Mack who’s rated as one of the top defensive backs in the country also played quarterback and receiver for his high school last season as he led them to the playoffs.

Mack joins defensive backs Xavier Filsaime and Josiah Davis in the Class of 2024 that now has 22 commits.
