Over the last few days, the coaching staff has been all over the country recruiting prospects for the Florida Gators recruiting class before the dead period starts on Monday.
On Wednesday Gators defensive coordinator Geoff Collins stopped by to see defensive end Markaviest Bryant (6-4, 226, Cordele, GA. Crisp County) at his school as he tried to smooth over a past miscommunication.
“Coach Collins was at my school to visit me,” Bryant said. “It was good, he was telling me that he was sorry for not hitting me up about a game earlier this year. He says from now on he’s going to be recruiting my area and recruiting me personally. Everything is good now.”
After the miscommunication was solved Collins got down to business by explaining some things to Bryant that he wasn’t aware of.
“He was telling me that he needed and he was just telling me about the defense,” he said. “He was telling me some stuff that I didn’t know about the campus and the academics down there.”
Collins also explained to Bryant why the Gators struggled down the stretch and how the defensive end can help Florida out.
“He was saying that he needed me because they don’t have any depth at my position,” Bryant said. “He said they had a lot of injuries this year and they have some guys leaving so they need depth. He said that I’m a real big need for them.”
The Gators have a small connection to Bryant as one of his relatives is a freshman for Florida.
“Antonneous [Clayton] is my cousin and we do talk about Florida from time to time,” he said. “We don’t talk everyday but I’m planning on catching up with him. I’m going to try and catch up with him on the visit.”
A few weeks ago it seemed like Florida was out of the mix for Bryant but now the defensive end is considering visiting Gainesville.
“Right now I have visits to Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, and LSU,” Bryant said. “Florida is most likely getting my last official visit but it isn’t set yet. One of those visits are going to have be a mid-week visit but I’m fine with that.”
INSIDERS TAKE: Auburn and Georgia seem to be the two teams out in front right now but the Gators are trying to get that last visit.
