Banks says the Florida Gators are #1 in his recruitment following his visit

This was the last weekend the Florida Gators coaching staff will host official visits before they head out to the Las Vegas Bowl, but it was a huge weekend of visitors.

Louisville defensive line transfer Caleb Banks (6-7, 265, Southfield, Michigan) was on campus and enjoyed being around everyone.

“It’s a great coaching staff and they’re building something great there,” Banks said of his visit to Florida. “It was amazing to see everything firsthand instead of virtually. I couldn’t go on visits in high school because of COVID so it was pretty good.”

Since COVID was going on during Banks’ senior year he didn’t get to take visits, so this was his first ever visit and he says everything stood out to him.

“Honestly everything,” he said on the highlights of the trip. “There wasn’t just one certain thing that was a highlight. I loved it.”

While on campus, Banks says two coaches stood out to him and had a message for him about how he would fit into the Gators’ plans going forward.

“The head coach, Coach Napier and Coach [Sean] Spencer the defensive line coach,” Banks said on the coaches who stood out to him during the trip. “They just told me that I have a good opportunity and that they need defensive linemen so we will see what happens. They see me as a 3, 4, and 5 technique.”

Spencer is a coach that gives a ton of energy and is a guy that players like playing for and Banks got the impression during the weekend as well.

“He reminded me of a coach I had in high school,” he said of his impressions of Spencer. “Like a father figure, that’s good, that’s something great and something I look for in my next coach.”

Next up for Banks could be more visits but the defensive lineman knows he wants to make a decision soon.

“I want to get a spot as quick as I can on a team,” Banks said on his timeline for his decision. “I’ve got to find a home as quick as possible. So right before Christmas or something.”

After the visit, Banks says he now has a clear number one school in his recruitment and it has to do with the vibe around campus.

“Florida was always number 1, my dream school,” he said on if this visit helped them. “The official visit was just the sprinkles on top of the cupcake. Florida is number 1, the people and the coaches. It’s just a family all-around.”
