Ancrum is #13 for the Florida Gators

The Florida Gators are on a roll in recruiting as they  picked up their third commitment in two days when defensive end Luke Ancrum (6-5, 230, Sebring, FL High) committed to Florida after his official visit to Gainesville this weekend.

Ancrum is commitment number 13 for the Gators and joins offensive linemen Fredrick Johnson and Richerd Desir-Jones as prospects who have committed to Florida this weekend.

While Ancrum didn’t want to do interviews, his father Luke Ancrum Sr. spoke to Gator Country about why his son committed to Florida this weekend.

“The biggest thing of why he committed was because of the education part at Florida,” Ancrum Sr. said. “Florida can offer him a good education and football comes second in this. Florida has one of the top five educations in the country. The Florida Gators are at the top with him getting his degree.”

Last week defensive line coach Terrell Williams and head coach Jim McElwain visited Ancrum and according to his father those coaches were big in getting Ancrum to commit to Florida this weekend.

“Coach Mac really in a short amount of time came in and gained our trust,” Ancrum Sr. said. “The campus was also beautiful and the Swamp was great. Me, him and his mom also felt great around Coach Mac and Coach Terrell Williams and what they brought to the table with their honesty and just being straight up with their visit. They made us feel like family.”

During the visit Ancrum’s father turned his Florida State loyalty towards the Gators as he believes McElwain is the right man for the job.

“My wife is a Gator fan and I’m currently now becoming a Gator fan. I just told my son that I’m in a five year retirement period from the Seminoles,” Ancrum Sr. said. “Coach Mac is definitely going to be the right man for the job. He’s going to be the guy to get Florida back to the top and get Florida back in the top five.”

Ancrum’s father said that McElwain did a great job of recruiting the parents but at the end of the day Florida was just too much to turn down.

“Of course it’s the Florida Gators so who wouldn’t want to play for them,” Ancrum Sr. said.

  1. AS, I’m glad to see our commitment list continue to grow. However, do you feel that McElwain personally making Ancrum a priority means he may already have been informed by CeCe or Cowart that they do not intend to commit to the gators come NSD?

Just curious considering hes the second DE we’ve taken that has not been under our radar previously.

  2. Bakers dozen…very cool.I love kids that know in their hearts they want to play for the orange and blue. Huge commit considering dad had previous alliances. It appears Coach Mac is simply coming from the heart and telling the truth, and people can relate to that. I think we’re blessed. We’re already more than halfway there. Go Gators.

    • I agree. We want people that want us. All the nay-sayers laugh at this commit but I will bet a months paycheck that in a couple years they will be saying where did this guy come from?

  3. I agree completely. I don’t question McElwain s ability to evaluate or developed talent at all. I think Ancrum will be a great gator and he sounds like a great kid who will work his ass off. I’m just trying to gauge where we stand with CeCe and Cowart.
