2027 QB Kingston Rust looking to build off strong relationship with Ryan O’Hara

2027 quarterback Kingston Rust out of Christoper Columbus High School in Miami, Florida visited Gainesville for the first time on Tuesday. The 6’3, 221-pound quarterback holds offers from FAU and Appalachian State.

“I was very impressed by the campus,” Rust said on the highlight of his trip. “Usually on some of these visits you’ll stay in the building, but we went all around the campus and it was really nice to see how the city was involved with the school. I was very impressed. It met all my expectations.

Rust spent most of his time with quarterback coach Ryan O’Hara, who he immediately established a strong bond with.

“I talked to coach O’Hara and coach [Deron] Wilson. I had a really good time with coach O’Hara. I’m coming back in the summer to spend more time with coach O’Hara,” Rust said. “He said that he really liked my film and that he wanted me to come back in the summer or in the seven on seven to watch me read defenses. He was very friendly, very approachable. I would obviously like to continue that friendship.”

Rust, the starting quarterback for Goleman as a sophomore, completed 50.6% of his passes for 647 yards and seven touchdowns while tossing just one interception. Rust fractured his collarbone in mid-October and was ruled out for the season after seven games. Rust plays in a run-heavy offense at Goleman, which didn’t present very many passing opportunities for the 221-pound quarterback. Florida’s staff wants to see Rust air it out in his junior season.

“I know that you can sling it,” O’Hara said to Rust.

Rust has great size for a rising junior standing at 6’3, 221 pounds. While Rust looks to pass first, but he has shown the ability to use his legs, recording four rushing touchdowns including a long of 23 yards last season.

“I’m a mix of both. I’m a threat while running but obviously I’m a pass first quarterback,” Rust said.

Rust is aiming at improving his accuracy in his junior season.

“I would say my accuracy,” Rust said on what he needs to work on. “I’ve been getting a lot better at that. And just taking what the defense gives me and not try to force any throws.”

The 2027 prospect will be back on campus in the summer to further his relationship with quarterback coach Ryan O’Hara. Rust has taken visits to Penn State, Wisconsin, Florida, and UCF most recently. Rust has sparked interested from most in-state schools including Florida, Miami, UCF, FAU, and FIU.

Florida has not offered as of April 18th, 2025.
