Blount excited to pick up a Florida Gators offer

The Florida Gators hosted several Georgia prospects on Friday as their 7-on-7 team was traveling down to Orlando for a tournament.

Receiver Trey Blount (6-2, 195, Atlanta, GA Pace Academy) was one of those prospects on campus and he picked up an offer from the Gators during the trip.

“Coach [Jim] McElwain was the coach that offered me and Coach [Doug] Nussmeier was actually in the office as well,” Blount said. “Coach McElwain said that he was offering me and that he was going to recruit me hard. He said that he wasn’t going to pressure me but that I was one of the top receivers on their board.”

Offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier went more in-depth with Blount about how the Gators would use him in the Florida offense.

“Coach Nussmeier was just talking to me about how I would fit into the offense,” he said. “He said that they run the pro-style offense and that I would play mostly outside receiver. He was impressed with my film a lot and that he can’t wait to get me back on campus.”

Another message from the Gators was how McElwain likes to play the best players no matter their class or age.

“They told me that play freshman and that they have no problem with freshman getting the ball,” Blount said. “They said if I come in work hard that I will compete for playing time as a freshman. They see me as a big body receiver that can stretch the field for them.”

After Blount talked to Nussmeier and McElwain, the talented receiver met with receiver’s coach Kerry Dixon in his office.

“When I went up to Coach Dixon’s office he was actually watching my film again,” Blount said. “He was just talking to me about how he was impressed with my size and speed. He said that I was versatile receiver that can block.”

The coaching staff impressed Blount a lot, but the campus and football offices also had the receiver’s attention.

“The campus was beautiful, the facilities to the dorms, to everything was just nice,” he said. “Everything at Florida was A1 and the coaches were great. I got to meet all of the coaches and they were all down to earth. They were all family men.”

Now that the Gators have offered Blount, he plans to research the school more, but he has a lot of interest in Florida.

“I definitely have high interest in Florida,” he said. “They’ve always been one of the schools that I wanted an offer from. They are one of my top schools right now but I’m still open in my recruitment.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Blount says that he wants to get back down to Florida for a spring practice so he can develop his relationship with Florida more. Blount is high on the Gators board at receiver.
