This past weekend was a big weekend for the Gators’ coaching staff as they held a spring scrimmage in addition to hosting over a dozen top notch prospects for unofficial visits.
One prospect that enjoyed his time in Gainesville was athlete Shawn Burgess-Becker (6-0, 194, Coconut Creek, FL Monarch) who got the grand tour of campus.
“The Florida visit, it was pretty good,” Burgess-Becker said. “When I first got there I went into Travaris Robinson’s office and watched a couple of plays and he was showing me the defensive schemes and after that I got the campus tour.”
During the visit Becker got the chance to see where Florida wanted him to play if he chooses the Gators in February.
“I would say Florida is recruiting me more towards the defensive side of the ball,” Burgess-Becker said. “But they always tell me that I’m an athlete and that I can play either side of the ball. But the few times I have been up there, I have been with the defensive backs. They want me more as a safety I think.”
Since the Gators are recruiting the Monarch athlete at safety he spent much of his time with defensive back coach Travaris Robinson and he came away impressed.
“Coach T-Rob is a good coach,” Burgess-Becker said. “He coaches the defensive backs really good and he relates to everyone good. He tells me all the time to take my time in the recruiting process but at the end of the day he wants me to make the decision for me but that he hopes it’s to become a Gator.”
Despite the good visit to Florida, Becker says that two schools are still standing out more than others right now.
“Florida is in my top 6 right now,” Burgess-Becker said. “Florida, Alabama, Miami, FSU, Ohio State and LSU are my top 6 schools right now. Alabama is my leader right now followed by Miami. The thing with those schools is that I have a better connection with those two schools than others.”
Next up for Becker will be a trip to see his leader followed by stops to other schools on his way back home.
“I’m going to A-Day at Alabama in a couple of weeks for their spring game,” Burgess-Becker said. “Probably on the way back I will stop and knock out a couple of visits to some schools. I could possibly stop by Florida but I’m not sure right now.”
