West Virginia has come into the state of Florida very early this year and gotten commitments from several of the top prospects in the state, but will they be able to hold on to all of them?
One of those prospects that is committed to the Mountaineers is athlete Jovon Durante (6-1, 180, Miami, FL Northwestern) but the Gators are still after him.
“Florida has been in contact with me a lot lately,” Durante said. “Coach T-Rob is the coach that I talk to from Florida the most. Coach T-Rob tells me that he wants me to be in the program and that they are changing the offense and that he thinks I fit perfectly into the offense at Florida.”
Durante is one of the prospects who has heard about Florida changing to the spread offense and he believes he could help the Gators at receiver.
“I have seen some of the things that Florida is talking about changing to on offense,” Durante said. “I’ve seen some of Duke’s games last year and I’ve watched Florida play so I know they need more playmakers on the offensive side of the ball like me.”
With Florida telling Durante that they are moving to the spread it has helped the Gators get into the mix with Durante with the help of some of the Gators 2014 signees.
“Moving to the spread offense definitely helps Florida with me,” Durante said. “Florida just got quarterback Treon Harris and receiver C.J. Worton and they are ballers and my friends so that helps Florida a lot.”
After signing Harris and Worton from South Florida the West Virginia commit Durante says that he believes the Gators are trying to build something in South Florida.
“Florida is trying to build that pipeline in South Florida,” Durante said. “It’s the start of something new and I know they are trying hard to get players from down here. South Florida has speed, quickness and toughness.”
Next up for Durante is visits to several schools around the country including the instate Florida Gators.
“I plan to visit Notre Dame, Florida, Ohio State and some other schools this spring,” Durante said. “I will probably also go to some other schools this summer too.”
