Florida looking to land another Virginia star

With the 2014 recruiting cycle winding down the Gators coaches are handing out new offers to Class of 2015 players.

This week Florida offered 2015 athlete Jaason Lewis (6-2, 233, Virginia Beach, VA Ocean Lakes) who received the good news from two of Florida’s coaches.

“Coach (Will) Muschamp and coach (D.J) Durkin offered me,” Lewis said. “They said that they liked my film, my explosiveness and they liked what I did with the ball in my hand. They both said that they loved my film. They want me at outside linebacker.”

Despite never stepping foot on Florida’s campus, Lewis knows a good bit about the  Gators defense and he respects Muschamp’s defensive mind.

“I really likes Florida’s defense a lot,” Lewis said. “They have a really good defense and the defense keeps them in the game. I like that they run the 3-4 and 4-3 style of defense. Coach Muschamp really knows how to coach defense.”

The last time Florida landed a recruit from Virginia it was a big one in Percy Harvin. Harvin helped the Gators win two national championships.

Lewis, who knows Percy Harvin from Virginia, used to watch Harvin on television during his college years in Gainesville.

“I know Percy Harvin because he went to school right up the road from me,” Lewis said. “I use to watch him at Florida when I was a kid. I know that Florida has a lot of history of winning and putting players into the league.”

Muschamp isn’t wasting any time on Lewis and wants to see the Virginia native in Gainesville as soon as possible.

“I plan to visit Florida in February,” Lewis said. “Coach Muschamp really wants to get me down there soon because he said he wants me to be a Gator.”

Lewis says he has a top 5 of Florida, UCLA, Tennessee, Georgia Tech and Miami.
