As the Florida Gators head to the home stretch for their recruiting class of 2014, they are starting to pay more attention to next season’s recruits. Junior defensive end Byron Cowart (6-3, 248, Seffner, FL Armwood) received a visit from Florida last week and the meeting was quite productive.
“Florida visited me last week and coach (Brad) Lawing came by,” Cowart said. “He was just talking and joking around with me and told me that me and my mom need to get back to Florida soon. I’m going to try get up there soon maybe in January or something.”
With the Gators just visiting Cowart last week and the continuous amount of contact between the two parties it’s no surprise Cowart claims that Florida is at the top for him.
“Florida is my leader heading into the offseason,” Cowart said. “Florida is showing me the most love right now. Everybody knows that I liked Oregon a lot but they haven’t been sending me mail or showing me love or anything. Florida comes down to see me and sends me mail so what else could you want from a school. Florida is showing they want me and that’s good to know.”
Although Florida didn’t have a great showing on the field in 2013, Cowart says he’s still very interested and knows the Gators will get back on track soon.
“I’m one of the recruits that does my research and I know Florida is one of the winningest teams around,” Cowart said. “I know what recruits are coming in and they have Will Grier coming in to help the offense next year. I also know that they are getting Devante Phillips and hopefully they keep Dalvin Cook too.”
Cowart has close to 14 months before he will sign his national letter of intent and he plans to take his recruitment into the year of 2015.
“I want to stick to my plan and announce at the Under Armour game in 2015,” Cowart said. “I just got invited to the Under Armour game so it’s an honor to be invited to that game.”
