New receiver coach Joker Phillips has been all around the state of Georgia this past week visiting prospects.
On Wednesday, Phillips visited Monroe (Ga.) Monroe Area receiver Stanton Truitt at his high school.
“It was good to see coach Phillips stop by to visit me,” Truitt said. “Everything went really well and he talked to my coach for a little bit about me. He was asking my coach about my grades and my attitude, just normal stuff.”
For the 5-foot-9, 177-pound Truitt, this was the first time he had the opportunity to meet Phillips but the two have had many of conversations.
“We talk pretty regularly, at least every week or two,” Truitt said. “We have a good relationship and he always tells me how bad that he wants me to be a Gator and how he wants to coach me up and stuff. We usually talk about life and other stuff besides football. He is always telling me to stay on top of my academics and to continue working hard.”
From his visit earlier to Gainesville and talks with Phillips, Truitt has gained a pretty good idea of how Florida would like to use him.
“They tell me that I’ll play the slot receiver position in the offense,” Truitt said. “I think I would fit in great and be able to show off my speed in the open field. I think I could create some space for myself to make place in their offense.”
Right now, Truitt says he has a leader and an unofficial top 5 but he does plan to take some visits this summer to various colleges.
“My leader is Tennessee right now,” Truitt said. “I don’t really have a top 5 but I have 5 schools standing out and they are Tennessee, West Virginia, Florida, North Carolina and North Carolina State. I plan to visit Florida for a camp this summer and get back up to Tennessee.”
