MADISON, Wis. – The fourth-ranked Florida women’s tennis team defeated No. 16 Michigan, 5-2, in the round of 16 in the 2010 ITA Division I National Women’s Team Indoor Championships at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
The Gators (7-0) play third-ranked Northwestern Saturday at 4:30 p.m. The Wildcats, who are the defending tournament champions, defeated Tennessee, 6-1, in their opening match.
“I thought we played tentative tennis today,” Florida coach Roland Thornqvist said. “We played more not to lose than to win and today we were good enough to get the win, but I’m going to emphasize to our team that we need to have a more aggressive mindset when we play.”
Florida swept all three doubles matches and captured the initial team point of the competition, something the Gators have done in every dual match this season.
Senior Anastasia Revzina, freshman Allie Will and sophomore Claire Bartlett won their singles matches at the Nos. 4, 2 and 6, respectively, to clinch the team win. Senior Marrit Boonstra made it 5-0 with her victory at No. 3 singles.
