The Gator Country Picks: Week 6

After an extremely tough week of games to pick last week, the college football slate has a lot fewer toss-up games in the SEC and the Top 25.

Our staff and four subscribers give their thoughts on this weekend’s games and picks the winners for each SEC and Top 25 game.

Our picks were much more similar this week, with only five games out of 22 not ending up with unanimous winners by our pickers.

The tightest games for our pickers were Georgia vs. Tennessee and No. 20 Kansas State vs. Missouri. Our 10 weekly pickers took Georgia and Missouri at 6-4 in each game.

Two other games were split somewhat between our pickers, with three people taking Auburn to upset Arkansas and three people taking Miami to upset Virginia Tech.

The only other game of the week not everyone agreed on was No. 22 Arizona State vs. Utah, with one person taking the Utes to upset the Sun Devils.

Without any further ado, here are our staff’s thoughts on a fairly bland weekend slate.

Tim Casey

Just like my fantasy baseball teams, my beloved Boston Red Sox and Buffalo Bills, my picks started strong but crashed and burned last week. I could make excuses, like, “I don’t get to watch any football games because I spend all of my time covering the Gators,” but we all know that the sports world is just out to get me. At least I’m ahead of Justin, and a night out on Bourbon Street this weekend can make me forget it all.

Adam Pincus

After going 17-3 last week, I still feel there is room for improvement. Why just beat everyone else, when you can destroy your opponents? My upset pick is Missouri on the road against No. 20 Kansas State. The Tigers trip up the Wildcats in this cat-family matchup. Missouri put up 532 yards of total offense last week against No. 3 Oklahoma. Tigers quarterback James Franklin will burn the Wildcats with his arm and his feet.

Next upset pick is the Miami Hurricanes finally playing up to its potential and knocking off Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. Miami running back Lamar Miller explodes against the Hokies. Hurricanes stay in contention for the ACC Coastal division title.

Justin Wells

I’m going to be a complete coward and virtually go chalk with all of my picks…except for my “movin’ to the SEC special,” where Missouri will beat No. 20 Kansas State at home. Arkansas and Auburn is the game I’m watching (aside from UF/LSU, of course)…I see the Razorbacks getting a big SEC win at home against the Tigers on Saturday, however.

Derek Tyson

I don’t feel like there will be any surprises in the SEC this week. Florida, I think, will keep it close, but LSU is just a better overall team. I do think the Ohio State/Nebraska game will be close but I think Nebraska pulls it out. My Top 25 upset is Mizzou over Kansas State.

Andrew Spivey

This is the week I hope to gain some ground on Adam and move back to the top where I belong. I have picked against Georgia the last few weeks and it has burned me, so this week I picked the Bulldogs and maybe they will make look good. I’m going with Missouri to upset Kansas State as well.

Thomas Goldkamp

My picks column has more or less matched Florida’s season so far, after tanking badly last week. I expect to surprise some people this week with my resutls. Here are a couple picks you can take to the bank.

Give me Arkansas over Auburn, Georgia over Tennessee and Missouri over No. 20 Kansas State. I’m going undefeated this week. Book it. Hooray beer!
