Florida enters Week 2 with a chance to build on a record-setting debut under Jon Sumrall. The Gators erupted for 66 points in their season opener, the most ever scored by a Florida head coach in his debut, and will look to move to 2-0 when they face Campbell for the first time in program history on Saturday.
Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium and is streaming live on SEC Network+.
Campbell is an FCS program competing in the Coastal Athletic Association. FBS vs. FCS games are typically one-sided. In 2025, FBS teams went 122-4 against FCS opponents, winning by an average of 33.45 points.
Florida is 25-1 across 26 contests against FCS opponents since 1981, most recently defeating LIU 55-0 in the 2025 season opener. The Gators’ lone FCS loss during that span came against Georgia Southern in 2013.
The Gators have outscored their opponents in those 26 games by an average of 39.3 points (1,279-256). Florida has eclipsed 450 total yards in five straight FCS games while rushing for more than 150 yards in nine in a row. The Gators have totaled at least 400 yards of offense and 200 passing yards in 10 straight games against FCS teams dating back to 2014.
Florida is currently favored by 49.5 points.
SCOUTING THE CAMELS
The Camels are 2-0 after beating ETSU 49-37 and No. 24 Western Carolina 28-19. They have already matched their win total from last season, when they went 2-10 (2-6 CAA).
Campbell enters Year 3 under Braxton Harris, and this looks to be his best team yet.
The Camels are averaging 521 yards of offense per game. There are some similarities in play style between Campbell and FAU, as both like to throw the ball frequently and operate at a fast pace.
Quarterback Kamden Sixkiller is the guy to watch. He’s back for his senior year after spending two seasons at McNeese State and last year at Campbell. Through two games this season, Sixkiller has completed 68% of his passes for 673 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions. He’s also found success on the ground, running for 114 yards and three additional scores.
On defense, Campbell has been much more vulnerable through the air than on the ground. They’ve allowed 699 passing yards through two games while holding opponents to 3.1 yards per carry on the ground.
WHAT DO THE GATORS NEED TO SHOW?
It’s always difficult to take away too much from a game against an FCS opponent. The skill gap is just too significant. With that said, there are a few things Florida can look to improve on in Week 2.
The first is the pass rush. Florida didn’t win a ton at the line of scrimmage against FAU. That needs to look different before the Gators take on Auburn in Week 3. Defensive coordinator Brad White pointed to a lack of technique, mechanics and strain as some of the reasons for the struggles.
Florida will also look to iron out its alignment issues. Too many times, the Gators’ cornerbacks were playing too far off the line of scrimmage on third-and-short against the Owls, allowing FAU to pick them apart at times. Both White and Sumrall pointed to a lack of awareness.
Lastly, Florida gets another shot at handling a fast-paced team before facing an Alex Golesh offense that is among the fastest in the country, right there with FAU.
The Gators should win big, and a lot of players we haven’t seen, such as freshman quarterback Will Griffin, could get their first opportunities to play in the Orange and Blue.

- WR Vernell Brown III set a career high with 117 receiving yards in Week 1 while catching his first-career touchdown en route to the first 100-yard receiving game of his career.
- Florida has won 36 of their last 46 games in The Swamp dating back to 2018, outscoring opponents by 761 points in that span for an average of 16.5 PPG while putting up 447.8 YPG. Florida is 17-30 away from home in that time.
- In 117 total snaps played by both Vernell Brown III and D. Wilson from 2025-26, Florida has averaged 8.2 yards per play for a total of 955 yards, 39 first downs and seven touchdowns.
- Aaron Philo is 14th in the FBS in passer rating, 18th in pass TD and 26th in comp. percentage, sitting top-six in the SEC in each category. He is one of eight FBS players with 250+ pass yards, 75.0%+ comp., 3+ pass TD and a 220+ rating.
