On Saturday night, the Florida Gators opened the season with a huge win over FAU and the south endzone was packed with recruits who were able to see the game.
2028 offensive lineman Nikolay Petrushev (6-6, 285, Tarpon Springs, FL. East Lake) was on campus and enjoyed getting to see the game in person.
“The visit was awesome, it was a great experience,” Petrushev said of his visit to Florida on Saturday. “It started with a pregame meal and then we got to do the Gator Walk which was really cool. After that, we got ready for the game, and I really enjoyed watching the players warm up and seeing how big they’re in person. The game itself was a lot of fun and really loud which I loved.”
One of the things that stood out to Petrushev was the atmosphere in the stadium and how loud it was when the Gators were doing well.
“The atmosphere in the stadium was a really good experience,” he said. “My favorite part was when the players would score touchdowns and the whole stadium would just blow up. The energy was incredible, and it was really cool to experience that in person.”
Petrushev played close attention to the offensive line and how they played under Phil Trautwein in game one on Saturday.
“I thought the offensive line played really aggressive and technical, which is something I look for when I watch college football,” he said on how he thought the offensive line played. “I liked how physical they were and how they played with good technique, and it was exciting to watch them compete at that level.”
After the game, Petrushev had the chance to talk with Trautwein about why the Gators want him and why they’re recruiting him.
“Coach Traut [Trautwein] told me he really likes the way I play and how hard I’m always trying,” Petrushev said on the message from the staff. “He likes that I bring that effort every day and that I’m always looking to improve. It means a lot to know he sees that in me and I’m excited to keep building our relationship and see where things go.”
Petrushev also got a chance to have a quick conversation with Sumrall and he believes in what the head coach is bringing to Gainesville.
“It was just a quick little hi and him just saying how he was excited for me to be there,” he said on his talks with Sumrall. “I think he’s a great coach overall, he’s really fun to talk to when I have the opportunity to talk to him and I think he’s the future of Florida for sure.”
After the trip Petrushev praised the Gators and says Florida is in good standing with him but he’s keeping his options open during his junior year.
“They definitely stand top five for me,” Petrushev said of where Florida stands for him. “But like I say all the time, all of the coaches/colleges that are recruiting me are equal.”
