The Florida Gators have put together an impressive recruiting class for the 2027 class on the field but off the field the commits are succeeding as well.
Linebacker commit Ellis McGaskin (6-1, 205, Mobile, AL. Williamson) is one of those guys and last week and he represented his team at High School Media Days.
“It’s amazing. It’s a blessing to be here,” McGaskin said on being selected to speak on his team’s behalf. ““It means a lot. I take pride in being a leader and making sure everything goes how it’s supposed to.”
McGaskin who committed to Florida over the summer says he has been talking with the coaching staff a lot despite his commitment and his conversation with Jon Sumrall have continued as well.
“We’ve just been really catching up a lot,” he said on his talks with Sumrall. “They’ve been keeping me up to date and I’m getting into the playbook a little later on into the season.”
Despite not visiting Gainesville since June, McGaskin has kept up with all of the commits in their group chat as they continue to grow as a group.
“It’s going great,” McGaskin said of his talks with the other commits. “We chop it up pretty much every day. We’re pretty close and everybody comes in, we get a good laugh, and we actually speaking a lot.”
The linebacker commit has already eyed a few games that he will be in Gainesville to see this year including two SEC games.
“I know I’m coming for the Oklahoma game,” he said. “Possibly Ole Miss. I want to get down four to five times if possible.”
When McGaskin does visit, he knows what he wants to see from Jon Sumrall and the team this year in the first year of the new era.
“Honestly improvement from last year. Obviously it was a disappointment last year,” McGaskin said. “Coming in, it’s big expectations, but you can’t hold those same expectations for a first year coach, so I’m honestly just looking for improvement.”
