Florida baseball dipped into the JUCO ranks for its seventh transfer portal commitment of the offseason. Gaston College first baseman Caden Davidson has committed to the Gators, he announced via social media.
Across 58 games as a freshman, Davidson hit .500 with 23 home runs and 18 doubles, earning 2026 NJCAA First Team All-American honors. The first baseman also drove in 110 runs and scored 98 times.
43 of his 93 hits went for extra bases, contributing to an impressive .989 slugging percentage. Davidson also displayed strong plate discipline, drawing 46 walks while striking out just 28 times. He finished the season with a .620 on-base percentage.
Defensively, Davidson made just three errors while posting a .992 fielding percentage, primarily at first base.
The Fletcher, North Carolina, native originally committed to Wake Forest out of the transfer portal before decommitting following changes to the coaching staff.
Davidson played high school baseball at T.C. Roberson, where he was ranked as the No. 73 overall player in the state of North Carolina in the 2025 class. Davidson will be a draft eligible sophomore in 2027 with four years of eligibility remaining.
Davidson joins Oregon State left-hander Trey Morris, FGCU catcher Jon Embury, Oregon State right-hander Zach Edwards, FAU infielder John Martinez, Utah Tech infielder Kyle McDaniel and Jacksonville State right-hander Maddox McDougall among Florida’s commitments thus far.
Where does Davidson fit in?
It’s difficult to evaluate players from lower-level conferences and project how they’ll translate to the SEC. But Davidson was highly sought after, ranking among the top JUCO prospects in the country as a true freshman.
Davidson played first base at Gaston College but was ranked as a third baseman out of high school by Perfect Game. With the MLB Draft looming, Florida still has several moving pieces, and Ethan Surowiec re-signing with Florida Victorious adds another layer to the equation.
Whether at first base, designated hitter, or third base, Davidson brings impact bat potential to the middle of Florida’s lineup.
