Jacksonville State transfer RHP Maddox McDougall commits to Florida

Florida baseball picked up its second commitment of the offseason as Jacksonville State right-handed pitcher Maddox McDougall pledged to the Gators on Tuesday evening, his agent told Gator Country.

As GC reported last week, McDougall was on campus Tuesday for a visit.

“I’m thankful for the opportunity to be closer to home. The University of Florida is a prestigious school and I’m thankful for the opportunity to pitch at a school with those accolades,” McDougall told Gator Country.

Ranked as the No. 28 overall transfer by Baseball America, McDougall posted a 2.76 ERA with 54 strikeouts and 18 walks across 49 innings as a sophomore in 2026. He made 23 appearances, including one start, and posted a perfect 5-0 record.

As a freshman in 2025, McDougall recorded a 5.01 ERA with 26 strikeouts and 17 walks over 41.1 innings pitched. The 6-foot, 180-pound right-hander made 16 appearances, including seven starts.

The Wesley Chapel, Florida, native offers a five-pitch mix including fastball, changeup, slider, curveball, and a cutter.

McDougall showed significant improvement in his second collegiate season. Although his fastball sits in the low 90s, he dramatically increased his strikeouts per nine innings while nearly cutting his ERA in half.

Florida is looking to revamp its pitching staff following its collapse in the 2026 Gainesville Regional. The Gators will also bring in a new pitching coach after parting ways with David Kopp, who spent five seasons with the program.

McDougall joins FGCU transfer catcher Jon Embury has commitments so far. McDougall will have two years of eligibility remaining but will be draft eligible in 2027.
