Nine Florida Gators have announced plans to play summer baseball, all in the Cape Cod League, which is widely regarded as the nation’s premier collegiate summer league.
Here’s the list of Florida’s summer ball assignments.
INF Brendan Lawson | Cape Cod League: Brewster Whitecaps
Florida shortstop Brendan Lawson will join the Brewster Whitecaps this summer after a breakout sophomore campaign in which he launched a team-high 19 home runs and hit .312. Lawson’s .511 on-base percentage ranked 15th nationally.
RHP Schuyler Sandford | Cape Cod League: Brewster Whitecaps
After redshirting due to an injury in 2025, RHP Schuyler Sandford posted a 4.95 ERA across 20 innings as a redshirt freshman in 2026. Sandford struck out 23 batters and walked 12. Sandford will join Lawson on the Brewster Whitecaps this summer.
OF Cash Strayer | Cape Cod League: Brewster Whitecaps
True freshman outfielder Cash Strayer made an immediate impact in Gainesville, hitting .274 with four home runs and 26 RBI in 103 at-bats. A hand injury sidelined Strayer during the middle of the season, but he established himself as an early-season starter in his first year with the Gators.
Despite limited playing time, Strayer tied for ninth in the SEC with five sacrifice flies. He is a polished hitter with a strong eye at the plate and power that projects well in the SEC. The Tampa native is one of four Gators set to play for the Brewster Whitecaps this summer.
RHP Joshua Whritenour | Cape Cod League: Brewster Whitecaps
After redshirting in 2025 due to injury, Joshua Whritenour served as Florida’s closer during his redshirt freshman season, posting a 5.40 ERA across 36.2 innings. Whritenour struck out 49 batters and walked just 14, while his seven saves ranked sixth in the SEC. The Tampa, Florida, native is the last of four Gators expected to join the Brewster Whitecaps this summer.
OF Hayden Yost | Cape Cod League: Wareham Gateman
Junior outfielder Hayden Yost enjoyed a breakout 2026 campaign, hitting .262 with 10 home runs, all of which came during Florida’s final 27 games of the season. Yost’s .589 slugging percentage ranked fourth on the team.
The Tampa native took over a starting role after Cash Strayer went down with an injury and never relinquished it, logging 107 at-bats on the season. Yost is one of two Gators set to play for the Wareham Gatemen this summer.
INF / RHP Caden McDonald | Cape Cod League: Wareham Gateman
Florida’s two-way star was arguably the story of the 2026 season, as Caden McDonald blasted nine home runs in 94 at-bats while posting a 3.42 ERA across 47.1 innings on the mound.
McDonald also led the Gators with a .319 batting average and a .702 slugging percentage. The Tampa native will join Hayden Yost on the Wareham Gatemen this summer.
INF Ethan Surowiec | Cape Cod League: Bourne Braves
Sophomore third baseman Ethan Surowiec is draft eligible but will play summer ball with the Bourne Braves. Surowiec hit .317 with 12 home runs and a team-high 63 RBI in 2026.
RHP Jackson Barberi | Cape Cod League: Harwich Mariners
Sophomore RHP Jackson Barberi took a significant leap in 2026, posting a team-best 3.13 ERA and 1.02 WHIP across 37.1 innings pitched. Barberi suffered a midseason injury that limited his workload, but the 6-foot-4 hard-throwing right-hander still emerged as one of Florida’s top arms and projects as one of the top prospects in the 2027 MLB Draft class. Barberi will play with the Harwich Mariners.
LHP Jackson Hoyt | Cape Cod League: Wareham Gateman
Florida left-handed pitcher Jackson Hoyt will join Caden McDonald and Hayden Yost on the Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod League. As a true freshman in 2026, Hoyt allowed 11 earned runs in 7.1 innings while striking out eight and walking six.
