The Florida Gators picked up their third commitment of the weekend and 22nd commit in the class on Saturday afternoon.
Linebacker Ellis McGaskin (6-1, 205, Mobile, AL. Williamson) committed to Florida over LSU and Florida State on Saturday.
“I feel like Sumrall, he’s building something special and I want to be a part of it,” McGaskin told Gator Country in an exclusive interview.
McGaskin who’s one of the top linebackers in the country was in Gainesville last weekend for his official visit an it was during that trip that the Gators pulled away from the competition.
“I wanted to commit up there. But once I finally got home, I talked to my parents, and they felt like that was the right decision.”
LSU was the early leader for McGaskin who decommitted from Notre Dame back in January but linebackers coach Greg Gasparato and Jon Sumrall really turned up the attention to the Mobile native.
“His intensity, like the way he coach. The type of person he is. He’s a great person to be around,” McGaskin said on Gasparato.
McGaskin has racked up an impressive 432 tackles, 60 tackles for a loss, nine sacks, and seven forced fumbles in high school.
With McGaskin’s commitment, the Gators now have two linebacker commits as he joins linebacker Ja’Bios Smith in the class. The Gators are still in the mix for linebacker Tre Geathers who would play the SAM backer position in college.
