Saturday was a chance for Jon Sumrall and the rest of the Florida Gators coaching staff to showcase their schemes during the Orange and Blue spring game.
Receiver Elias Pearl (5-11, 183, Port Charlotte, FL. High) was in town to watch the game and he liked seeing the atmosphere in the Swamp.
“It was good,” Pearl said of seeing the spring game. “It was good seeing the game setting, you know seeing all the fans and just getting used to the atmosphere.”
Pearl knows new quarterback commit Davin Davidson very well and the two talked at length during the day on Saturday.
“He just wanted me to come be a Gator with him,” he said on the message Davin Davidson. “He said he thinks we will be very dominant together.”
With Davidson already in the class for the Gators, Pearl says it definitely helps the Gators chances with him because of the familiarity he has with the quarterback.
“I’ll say that it definitely gives them like a boost in my recruitment,” Pearl said of having his friend Davidson committed. “Having a quarterback as my friend committed to Florida, one of the best quarterbacks that definitely helps.”
Pearl watched the receivers closely on Saturday and he thinks he can fit what Buster Faulkner wants out of the offense.
“I’d say the offense did good,” he said on his thoughts on the offense during the game. “They started doing better as the time went on, you know I feel like I could fit in the offense. They run a lot of mesh concepts and rub routes. I feel like I could just fit in their offense.”
Receivers coach Marcus Davis explained to Pearl on Saturday just how they would use him if he was to commit to Florida.
“They say I’m very versatile so I can do a lot,” Pearl said of the message from Marcus Davis. “You know on the outside they can move me around, slot to the backfield, back at kick return, punt return all that stuff, kind of like Vernell [Brown].”
Heading into the visit, Pearl had the Gators as his leader and he says that’s still the case after the visit.
“I’d say they’re one still,” he said on where Florida stands for him. “I’m going to take some time, make sure I make the right decision so probably after I take my official visits or maybe after the decision.
