Many out of state prospects were on campus last weekend to watch the Florida Gators first spring scrimmage.
Defensive lineman Jason Johnson (6-4, 280, Humble, TX. Atascocita) was on campus and liked the energy around the program.
“I liked everything about it,” Johnson said of his visit to Florida on Saturday. “I love the hospitality, I love the coaching, especially Coach [Gerald] Chatman and Coach [Joe] Hamilton. They bring a lot of energy, they’re like family here.”
Saturday was also the first time for Johnson to meet defensive line coach Gerald Chatman despite the two of them talking on a weekly basis.
“It was good, it was good seeing him face to face,” he said on meeting Chatman. “You know, he has never seen me in person, so it was his first time seeing me, seeing my physique and stuff. He was saying that they’re family and that they care about the players even though you know they will yell at them just to get on them, it’s out of love.”
While on campus, Johnson watched Chatman and the defensive line go through spring practice and he noticed several guys standing out.
“I think it was good,” Johnson said of the scrimmage. “The defensive line was really just doing their stuff, I like how they were performing and everything. Very violent. Number 90 [Brendan Bett] and #99 [Emmanuel Oyebadejo] stood out.”
Heading into the visit, Johnson said the Gators were one of his top schools and he says Florida improved its chances with the visit.
“It definitely changed in a good way, I really like Florida,” he said on if this helps Florida. “They’re definitely one of my top schools with Texas, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Houston and Stanford.”
Next up for Johnson will be official visits later this spring and then he will make a summer commitment.
“My officials I have lined up, I have Houston May 28th and then Arkansas the weekend afterwards,” Johnson said. “Then I go to Florida then I go to Texas. I’m going to commit in July.”
