The Florida Gators hosted several prospects on campus on Tuesday as the Gators went through spring practice.
Offensive lineman Ian Walker (6-6, 305, Pennington, NJ. School) was on campus and enjoyed the practice.
“It was great,” Walker said of his visit to Florida on Tuesday. “I enjoyed seeing the intensity and competitiveness at practice. There were even a couple fights that broke out during practice, I just really loved the energy.”
Walker paid close to attention to the offensive line group and watching how Phil Trautwein coached the position.
“I was really paying attention to Coach Traut [Phil Trautwein],” he said on practice. “I just love the enthusiasm and energy he puts into his players. I know he likes to work on the little details and things like that, that’s really important to me. Just being a very technical player.”
After practice was over, Walker spent time with Trautwein as the offensive line coach explained why the Gators are a good fit for the lineman.
“Florida really has facilities like no other,” Walker said on the message from Trautwein. “They have a lot of money to put into football and Coach Traut says that’s big. He’s been on me since Penn State so he just loves me, loves my ability to bend, my size and he just sees he can put me in the NFL as a first-round pick at tackle.”
This was the first time for Walker to be around the whole staff in Gainesville and he walked away impressed by the staff.
“Just great people, loving people,” he said on his impressions of the staff. “I can tell that Coach Traut loves Florida and he’s passionate about it. I feel like it’s more than a job to him.”
Walker has several schools after him and he says the visit was big for Florida’s chances and he likes several things about the program.
“Definitely helps them,” Walker said of Florida’s chances with him. “I like the facilities; every school has great facilities, but Florida’s are just different. And of course, the weather being nice all year around, that’s a great plus.”
Next up for Walker will be official visits, and he says he hopes to have a date set with the Gators soon.
“I’m looking to set one up with Florida,” he said on official visits. “I still have to speak with Coach Traut about setting a date.”
