Florida added its fifth defensive back through the transfer poral when East Carolina cornerback Jordy Lowery committed and signed to the Gators on Wednesday morning.
In his lone season with the Pirates, Lowery posted 27 tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and a team high four pass break ups. In coverage, Lowery allowed 22 receptions for 274 yards and four touchdowns on 32 targets.
Lowery recorded 14 ‘stops’ at ECU, which is defined as a tackle that constitutes a “failure” for the offense, per Pro Football Focus. His run defense grade of 82.1 ranked third on ECU’s defense and 52nd amongst cornerbacks Nationally.
The 5’11, 189-pound cornerback missed seven tackles last year and posted a missed tackle rate of 16.3%.
Prior to his time with East Carolina, the Bartow, Florida native spent three seasons with Western Carolina under head coach Kerwin Bell, a former Gator quarterback.
After a limited role from 2022-23, Lowery broke out during his redshirt sophomore campaign, recording 48 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, eight pass break ups, and six interceptions, one of which he returned 92 yards for a touchdown. His eight pass break ups and six interceptions ranked third in the Southern Conference.
Lowery’s performance in 2024 earned him Second Team All-America recognition from the Associated Press, along with third-team honors from FCS Football Central.
With one season of eligibility remaining under new cornerback coach Brandon Harris, Lowery joins a cornerback room that consists of J’Vari Flowers, Ben Hanks III, Dijon Johnson, Kanye Clark, Onis Konanbanny, Elijah Owens, Cormani McClain, and freshman CJ Bronaugh.
