Florida expected to hire Tulane’s Evan McKissack as tight ends coach

The Florida Gators are expected to hire Tulane co-offensive coordinator / offensive line coach Evan McKissack as its tight end coach, Gator Country confirms.

McKissack arrived in New Orleans after spending the 2022-23 seasons as Troy’s tight ends coach under Jon Sumrall.

In 2023, McKissack helped Troy rank second in the Sun Belt in passing yards per completion (13.30), fifth in total offense (419.4), fifth in passing offense (266.0), and sixth in scoring (29.6).

During the 2022 season, McKissack and the Trojans achieved several historic milestones, finishing ranked in a major poll for the first time in program history. Troy closed the season at No. 19 in the AP Top 25 and No. 20 in the USA Today/Coaches Poll. Following its Sun Belt Championship Game victory, the program also earned its first-ever appearances in both the Coaches Poll and the College Football Playoff Poll.

The Trojan offense was one of the most explosive in the country in McKissack’s first season, ranking fourth with nine passes of 50-plus yards and five passes of 60-plus yards. Additionally, Troy was 24th in passes of 20-plus yards (54) and 16th in passes of 30-plus yards (24).

Troy’s tight ends combined to catch 23 passes for 274 yards and three touchdowns, including a pair of touchdown receptions on the final play of the third quarter and three minutes later in the fourth quarter as Troy rallied from a 17-0 deficit at Louisiana. The receptions and yardage totals were the most by a tight end unit in Troy’s SBC history, while the touchdown tally tied for the most.
