2025 MLB Draft: Gators catcher Luke Heyman selected in 14th round by Seattle Mariners

Florida Gators catcher Luke Heyman has been selected by the Seattle Mariners with the 422nd overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft.

A three-year starter at UF, Heyman hit .282 with 41 home runs, 27 doubles, and 135 RBI across 166 starts in his collegiate career.

Heyman was an immediate success story in Gainesville, helping Florida reach the College World Series finals by hitting .314 with 12 home runs as a true freshman in 2023. As a sophomore, Heyman posted career lows in batting average (.246), slugging percentage (.481), and on base percentage (.342). Heyman returned for his junior year where he put together his most productive season, batting .301 with 13 home runs while setting career highs in slugging percentage (.578) and on base percentage (.397) in 2025. Heyman also cut his strikeout rate by 6% last season.

Before an injury on May 15th that shut him down for the rest of the 2025 season, Heyman was one of the hottest hitters in all of college baseball. After a sluggish start through non-conference play, Heyman posted a .317 batting average against SEC pitching while blasting 10 home runs, which at the time of his injury was the second most in the conference.

Behind the plate, Heyman improved each season at UF, posting a career high .998 fielding percentage in 2025 while throwing out 11 runners attempting to steal on 34 attempts.

Heyman has a year of eligibility remaining if he chooses not to sign with Seattle.
