Florida Gators freshman catcher Brock Clayton has entered the transfer portal with four years of eligibility remaining, a source tells Gator Country. Clayton marks the 7th Gator to enter the portal this offseason.
Clayton, a 6’3 catcher from Gulf Breeze, Florida, redshirted in 2025 after not appearing in any games throughout the 2025 season.
At Pensacola Catholic High School, Clayton earned 2024 Pensacola News Journal’s All-Area Hitter of the Year, FACA State All-Star, and Prep Baseball Florida First Team All-State. Clayton broke out in his senior season, posting a slash line of .466/.584/.727 in 29 games. Clayton ranked as the 500th overall player in the 2024 class and the 119th and No.12 catcher in the state of Florida, according to Perfect Game.
Clayton joins RHP Felix Ong, LHP Jacob Gomberg, LHP Niko Janssens, C Cole Bullen, RHP Carson Montsdeoca, and RHP Alex Philpott as Gators to enter the transfer portal.
Florida has added JUCO product AJ Malzone in the portal, a 5’11, 190-pound catcher who posted a .347 batting average with eight home runs, 16 doubles, and 58 RBI last season with Wabash Valley. As a true freshman in 2024, Malzone hit .372 with eight home runs.
With both freshman catchers in the transfer portal and junior catchers Luke Heyman and Brody Donay both draft eligible, Florida will likely look to add at least one more catcher in the transfer portal. Gator Country can confirm that Florida has expressed interest in Notre Dame catcher Carson Tinney, a rising junior who hit .348 with 17 home runs throughout his sophomore campaign.
