This past weekend, the Florida Gators hosted a prospect on campus who has just recently started getting offers after an impressive spring.
Defensive end Corey Howard (6-6, 235, Valdosta, GA. High) was on campus and came away feeling great about the Gators.
“It was special,” Howard said of his visit to Florida last weekend. “They’re really building something down there, and I would love to be a part of what they have going on down there. The people were amazing, from the players to the coaching staff, everybody made it feel like home. It was amazing and I loved everything.”
While on campus ,Howard was hosted by another edge rusher who just got to campus a few months ago.
“Jayden Woods,” he said of his player host. “He told me that he came in early like I plan to and to come in work hard because they’re building something. He said I remind him of himself.”
Outside linebackers coach Mike Peterson spent the most time with Howard during the visit and explained to him how he would fit into the defense in Gainesville.
“They said they can see me playing like the F in their defense,” Howard said of the message from the coaches. “It’s like a field side defensive end so it’s a lot of what I do in high school right now. So, they have a plan in place for me.”
Head coach Billy Napier talked about the recruiting process with Howard during the visit and encouraged him to enjoy the process before deciding.
“He told me since I’m so fresh and I’m still getting interest because nobody really knows me that he wants me to take some visits and compare them,” he said on the message from Napier. “He said to compare the visits and see if I could find something better than what he has down there and if I don’t then he’s producing down there. He was straight up.”
After the visit, Howard says the Gators are in the lead and he will be back in Gainesville this week to build off of last week’s visit.
“Florida is in the lead,” Howard said of Florida. “I’ll be back down there tomorrow [Thursday] to see if Florida can do it again. Like on Friday the first day of the visit, it was crazy and felt like home. So can they do that again.”
