Forkpa has the Florida Gators at the top of his recruitment

This weekend, the Florida Gators hosted 17 prospects on campus for official visits, including several top targets in the class.

Linebacker Duyon Forkpa (6-0, 225, Bradenton, FL,. IMG Academy) was on campus and enjoyed being around the players.

“It was really good,” Forkpa said. “I got to deal with some of the player hosts and learn more about the brotherhood and the culture that they have, and Myles Graham was my host. I loved it.”

Forkpa knew a lot about the Gators heading into the weekend, but he says the atmosphere around the team is something that stands out about the Gators.

“Honestly because I had already been there a couple times, I already kind of know what I’m getting into,” he said on hanging around the players and staff. “Like I already know what I like the most about them. I feel most at home when I’m there, and that’s important because whatever college I choose for three to four years, it must be the place you’re most comfortable with. That’s really what I like most about them and they have a great defensive mind, and they just feel like a family there.”

Linebacker coach Robert Bala spent a lot of time with Forkpa this weekend talking to him about how he fits into the scheme at Florida.

“You know they said I fit right in, like they pulled up clips of stuff that I do right now,” Forkpa said of his talks with Bala. “That translates to what they teach their backers and really what they see me as, like being able to play in the box and come off the edge on certain fronts.”

Head coach Billy Napier met with Forkpa as well and made sure to let the linebacker know that he’s wanted in Gainesville.

“He loves the character that I have,” he said of his talks with Napier. “He loves my family, how I’m raised in our morals and our values and stuff like that. I pretty much feel like I’m a priority for them, he said even if the two linebacker spots are taken up, like he’s still going to try and get me.”

Heading into the visit, the Gators were the top school for Forkpa and he says that hasn’t changed after a great visit.

“Florida is still my number one,” Forkpa said. “Just being a family, I just love the culture and since I can’t really say much about like the culture and brotherhood of other schools because I haven’t been around them, but the players were great here. So being able to be around the players that really helped me like see that this is what I’m getting myself into and this is how the guys can make me better.”

Forkpa has three more official visits scheduled for this summer and he will take a step back and evaluate everyone.

“Next week, I have Florida State, and then Michigan and Miami,” he said on what’s next. “I don’t have a decision date, but I’ll probably wait a little until like a couple games after the season starts and then go from there.”
