Offensive lineman Johnnie Jones recaps his visit with the Florida Gators

This spring has been busy on the Florida Gators’ campus, as Billy Napier and his staff have hosted prospects daily during spring practice.

Offensive lineman Johnnie Jones (6-6, 305, Tampa, FL. Berkeley Prep) visited Gainesville this spring and saw how the players go about their day.

“The visit was nice,” Jones said of his visit to Florida. “I was able to watch practice and talk to the coaches. It was good. I was able to watch them practice and see what they do and how they go from individual drills to team practice.”

Jones was impressed by the Gators’ two offensive line coaches and how they were able to work with the players on drills.

“I say it was good to see the two offensive line coaches,” he said of practice and having two offensive line coaches. “I like how it allows them to break up into groups and to coach their style faster. I really watched Bryce Lovett and Jake Slaughter.”

Offensive line coaches John Decoster and Rob Sale explained to Jones where they see him playing at if he picks Florida when they met with him after practice.

“They want me to rotate from tackle to tackle,” Jones said of the message from the coaches. “They said based off my skill and athletic ability that they want to be able to have me maximize my potential to the fullest.”

Head coach Billy Napier also met with Jones and explained to him that he’s needed in Gainesville.

“He said he would like to see me as a person in his program,” he said on the message from Napier. “He thinks I could play in their program, and he thinks he can maximize my potential to the fullest and he said I’m needed because they have so many people graduating so they kind of are trying to fill those holes.”

Jones isn’t ready to narrow down his list of schools yet but he’s in the process of setting up official visits and he’s trying to work one in with the Gators.

“My interest in them is just like every other school,” Jones said of his interest in Florida. “I’m just kind of seeing how it’s going to go until I make that final decision.”
