The Florida Gators wrapped up their 2025 class with the signing of cornerback Onis Konanbanny, a composite four star out of Columbia, South Carolina. While committed to Tennessee, Konanbanny visited Florida on November 22nd and things started to trend in the right direction for the Gators.
Konanbanny chose not to sign with Tennessee or Florida on early signing day, which allowed Florida to continue to push for the 6’1, 180-pound cornerback. Defensive backs coach Will Harris and Head Coach Billy Napier did an in-home visit with Konanbanny as well as seeing him one more time at UF.
Konanbanny committed to Florida on Tuesday before signing with Florida on Wednesday. While the Heathwood Hall Episcopal School product is a composite four star, he’s listed as a three-star on 247 sports and the 53rd best cornerback in the class. Napier believes Konanbanny is an underrated prospect.
“I think Onis is a very underrated player, in my opinion. I mean, I see some of these rankings I mean, that guy’s, I watched that tape again yesterday just to make sure I was seeing it right,” Napier said on Konanbanny. “I mean 6-foot and a quarter, 180, 185 pounds, and physical, two-way player, a guy who can, you know, plays offense and defense. He’s physical. The guy who can kick a 50-yard field goal and the guy’s an elite athlete, so. And I do think that there’s a good character foundation there.”
Konananny is part of a defensive back class that could be considered one of the best in the nation with commitments from two top 15 safeties in Hylton Stubbs and Lagonza Hayward and a top 10 corner in Ben Hanks. The Gators also dipped into the portal for more depth, adding a versatile defensive back in Michael Carraway Jr. from Southern Miss.
“I think we signed two of the best safeties in the country, two best corners, and then Mike Caraway is a traitsy player from Southern Miss out of the portal, height, length speed and production thereS,” Napier said on his defensive back class. “I think the two safeties, you know, I would argue their film, the height, length, speed, the production there, the make up, are really good. Ben (Hanks), obviously, with 13 picks to break the county record down there, and then it’s in the DNA, right? The orange and blue’s in there, you know, so I think those guys tend to play a little bit harder.”
While the defensive back class is impressive, Napier mentioned the possibility of adding more players at the position in the spring portal window as Florida has several defensive backs recovering from significant injuries.
” [I] think we could potentially add more players there, you know, we have a few scholarships left, so, on the defensive side of the ball, there’s a little bit of potential movement there. So we could potentially add more.”
Cornerback is a position Gator Country is expecting Florida targets after spring.
