Montgomery says “relationships” is what sold him on the Florida Gators

The Florida Gators signed four receivers in the Class of 2025 as they look to add more weapons around quarterback DJ Lagway.

Receiver signee Naeshaun Montgomery (6-1, 165, Miami, FL. Central) had Alabama and Louisville after him hard down the stretch but he said the relationships at Florida helped the Gators win out.

“Really just the relationship I have with them,” Montgomery said on why he stuck to Florida. “Not just Coach [Billy] Napier or Billy Gonzales but I have a relationship with all the staff even with the people who do the nametags like Katie [Turner]. That was like the main thing really it just felt like home every time I came back.”

Montgomery knows that Napier will find ways to get all of the receivers involved in the offense as he remembers the group that he had when he coached at Alabama as a receiver coach.

“I think, Coach Napier’s history when he was at Bama and he had [Jerry] Jeudy, Devonta Smith and all of them guys so he knows what to do with the talent,” he said on the receiver class. “I’m surrounded by a lot of great receivers even the dude from UCLA. We definitely needed a veteran in the group. I think we’re going to really take over college football and dominate.”

The Miami native also knows that he does things different than the other guys and he knows the other receivers have different strengths as well and he believes that will help the offense.

“We all have different strengths so I feel like one play I can go outside and say Dallas [Wilson] can go inside,” Montgomery said on how they plan to use all of them. “If they’re double teaming me or have a safety over the top then he would get the ball, same thing with Vernell and same thing for the other receivers. We’re going to open up the offense.”

All fall, Montgomery praised the play of DJ Lagway and he likes the leadership skills Lagway shows when the receiver has been around.

“All he needed was one chance and they gave him that chance and he took over from there,” he said on DJ Lagway’s play this year. “As you can see, great quarterback, he can run and throw. He’s a leader, every time I go down there, he’s breaking down the huddle with family on three. He’s a key leader on the team.”

Next up for Montgomery will be him early enrolling at Florida in two weeks and the receiver heads there believing he can play early.

“I have a lot of confidence as you can see, we have five receivers coming in,” Montgomery said on his confidence that he will play early. “That really doesn’t affect me because I’m just going to keep my head down and get to work. Like I told the coaches, it doesn’t matter who they bring in, I’m going to make sure I work hard. I want to work for it.”
