After flirting with the Gators long before the Mandarin defensive back even committed to the Trojans or the Hurricanes, talented four-star safety Hylton Stubbs has flipped from the Miami Hurricanes to the Florida Gators on Monday afternoon. The top 5 safety gives the Gators a total of 23 commitments in the Class of 2025, making it their 12th commitment in just 21 days. A recruiting class that once ranked 51st in the country 43 days ago is close to signing a top 10 class as signing day approaches on Dec. 4th.
Back in June, just one month before the 6-1, 190-pound safety committed to the Hurricanes, Stubbs made it clear how this recruitment process would go, and it slid under the radar.
“I don’t know, it may be crazy until signing day,” Stubbs said on his final decision.
With signing day beginning in just three days, it’s safe to say Stubbs has made his final decision.
The biggest thing for Stubbs in his recruitment was to see progress, and that’s exactly what he’s seen from the Florida Gators. After three-straight wins to close out the season (two against ranked opponents), Stubbs proved he was serious about what he said in the summer.
“A lot, a lot. I went to practice, and I like what they are doing at practice. That’s really the big thing right now, that’s really the most important thing for me is how the season is going to look,” Stubbs said back in June. “It’s not a win or lose sort of thing, it’s about progress and seeing how good they’ve grown over the last couple years.”
Stubbs joins a class that includes five-star wide receiver Vernell Brown lll, four-star cornerback Ben Hanks Jr, four-star edge Jayden Woods and four-star offensive tackle Tavaris Dice. Stubbs first committed to the USC Trojans back in March before committing to the Miami Hurricanes and later making his way back home to Gainesville.
