The Florida Gators hosted a number of official visitors this weekend including wide receiver / tight end Tae’shuan Gelsey from the 2025 class. The Jacksonville, Florida native picked up an offer from Florida on May 17th before making his way to Gainesville two weeks later.
“It was a great visit,” Gelsey told Gator Country. “Everybody was just engaged; everybody knew who everybody was. You can tell they build great relationships with each of their recruits.”
Gelsey has built a great relationship with quality control coach (wide receivers) Chad Lucas and tight end coach / co offensive coordinator Russ Callaway in recent weeks. The chemistry between Gelsey and the coaching staff grew stronger after his first official visit to Florida.
“It just grew a better bond, being around them everybody just showed me how they is outside of football. They real characters,” Gelsey said.
Playing for Riverside High School, the 6’4, 215-pound pass catcher hauled in 48 passes for 859 yards and nine touchdowns during his junior season. Florida sees Gelsey as a matchup player, a guy that can play tight end but also slide outside to wide receiver.
“That matchup nightmare type of position,” Gelsey said on where Florida has him playing. “I think it’s a great idea because they’ve shown that they can make that position get to the NFL. Kyle Pitts went 4th overall in the NFL Draft, so just following behind that. I think it’s a great idea.”
Gelsey says that Florida stands very high in his recruitment following his official visit.
“Very, very high right now,” Gelsey told Gator Country on Sunday. “I’ve been on Florida for like the past two years, so just getting this offer was a dream come true to me.”
“I’m real big on relationships and they showed me a lot of that this weekend, “Gelsey added. “That put them up there.”
Gelsey stated that Florida is pushing hard for his commitment, but he wants to take his time and find the best fit.
“Very hard. You can tell that if they got you here, they want you here,” Gelsey said. “They were pushing real hard to get me here.”
With a commitment likely coming in July, Gelsey is looking for a school that’s going to send him to the National Football League.
“Development, production. I’m just trying to get to the league,” Gelsey said on what he’s looking for. “I’m going to put myself in the best position I can.”
