The Florida Gators hosted a lot of prospects on campus on Saturday for the Orange and Blue spring game including several guys from out of state.
One of those guys was receiver Corey Simms (6-4, 195, St. Louis, MO. Christian Brothers College) who had the chance to visit for the first time.
“It was good, I got to see a lot of places,” Simms said of his visit to Florida on Saturday. “I got to tour the facilities, meet all the coaches in person, watch the full game, see what they got, see how they throw the ball, see who they have and who they use.”
Simms watched the spring game closely as he wanted to see what the offense had to offer and he was impressed by the offensive approach.
“I like how they threw the ball,” he said on his impressions of the game. “They threw the ball a lot, everybody got a chance to touch the ball. I love that he [DJ Lagway] will already be there and I’m confident in him. I’m confident that we would make a great team.”
While on campus, Simms had the chance to talk to several coaches including receivers coach Billy Gonzales who had a message for him.
“I got to talk to both of the Coach Billy’s,” Simms said on the coaches he got to talk too. “I talked to the head coach, receiver coach, the personnel guys, I talked to pretty much everybody. Coach Gonzales was explaining how he would use me at both the X and the H. He would move me across the field like a match-up game.”
Head coach Billy Napier explained to Simms on Saturday that he was impressed by him and was going to watch his film more to evaluate a potential offer.
“Coach Napier said he’s going to evaluate me and get back to me this week,” he said on the message from Napier. “He was happy that I came down so he could look at me. He said I was big, he liked how much I weigh, how tall I am in person and my personality.”
Despite not having the offer yet, Simms was impressed by the environment in Gainesville during the spring game.
“I will probably take an official visit once I get the offer,” Simms said of his interest in Florida. “It brings back memories being there, it feels like little league football, it brings a sense of home back.”
Several other teams are recruiting Simms hard early on and he has already set up two official visits.
“USC, Missouri, Ole Miss, and Nebraska are,” he said on who’s recruiting him hard. “I’m taking an official visit to Missouri and USC.”
